The United Nations Children’s Fund or UNICEF is seeking more money, warning that it may not be able to provide humanitarian support to South Sudanese refugees in Uganda if its 36 million US Dollar appeal is not met.
UNICEF’s Chief of Communications in Uganda after receiving a donation of one million Euros from the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid division says the humanitarian emergency in Uganda is growing rapidly.
The official describes the donation from the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid as significant, but not enough.
He says the one million Euros would partly be used in health programs to tackle nutrition, immunization and water and sanitation issues, warning that not all children would benefit.
The World Food Program resumed relief supplies to South Sudan refugees in February after it ran out of funds.
Both UNICEF and the WFP say they are in critical need of emergency support since refugee numbers in Uganda keep swelling.
