Eastern Equatoria Network of Civil Society Organizations urges the government to mitigate rising commodity prices in the markets to save citizens.
Network Chairperson Simon Bul during United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS first partners’ confidence-building and interaction dinner in Torit on Saturday, urges the government to set price control mechanism on commodities to avoid exploitation.
He cites that meat price rose from 24 to 40 South Sudanese Pounds within a short period of time, making it difficult for a common person to afford.
Mr Bul also calls on non-governmental organizations dealing in food security to avail farmers with seed and agricultural implements on time to enable farmers cultivate at appropriate season to realise good yield of the produce.
In a power point presentation, UNMISS Public Information Officer in Eastern Equatoria State Edward Benjamin Kargbo took the participants through the four pillars of UNMISS mandate.
He says UNMISS’ protection of civilians is a core mandate to monitor, investigate human rights, create conditions for delivery of humanitarian assistance and support the implementation of cessation of hostilities Agreement.
Eastern Equatoria State government representatives, civil society, journalists and UNMISS officials attended the event.
