Hotel owners and middlemen traders in Wau City of Western Bahr El-Ghazal State are protesting against what they term ‘high charges’ on license fees.

The State Finance, Trade and Commerce Ministries have increased license fee charges for middlemen traders to two thousand from one thousand South Sudanese Pounds and 20 thousand from five thousand pounds for hotel owners in a move to generate more revenues for government, Radio Voice of Hope reported.

Trade Chamber Chairperson Charles Wol tells Voice of Hope that grieved traders have declined to acquire expensive licenses, preferring to file formal complaints demanding for reduction of the license charges.

Jau Market Trade Chamber Committee Chairperson Gabriel Yel says high tax levy on traders together with the rise in dollar exchange rate against local pounds sparks off price hiking.
