Authorities in Yei River County of Central Equatoria State suspended legal contracts of Vivacel and MTN Telecommunication Companies over disputes on tax ownership among the community, landlords and the Local Government.

County Commissioner Cosmas Bidali Wöri-Köjö says there is need for review on previous Memorandum of Understanding, Radio Easter reported.

He blames the companies for dealing directly with the community without paying taxes to the government.

Commissioner Bidali states that tax collection is government responsibility to enable utilization of resources and service delivery.

He recalls that they agreed that the money should be paid directly to the government account to promote transparency and reduce corruption.

The companies urge the government to establish a clear system of tax management for all to benefit.
