Abyei Joint Oversight Committee or AJOC in its two-day meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia resolved to convene Ngok Dinka and Messeria traditional leaders’ dialogue within the last week of the coming April to address issues of common concerns.
The meeting is expected to bring together AJOC, African Union, United Nations and the two sides would coordinate with their community leaders to ensure a successful assembly.
The AJOC meeting co-chaired by Deng Mading Mijka of South Sudan and Hasan Ali Nimir agreed to support a sustained humanitarian and recovery programmes in the area and ensure full access of aid workers by both governments.
It condemned all attacks in the area and recent attacks on Marial Achak and Difra oil fields.
The AJOC which reiterated the need for Abyei to be weapon free zone also resolved to conduct the next meeting after traditional leaders’ dialogue.
