Legislator says presidency extension means reforms in system

Eastern Equatoria State Ikwotos County legislator on Tuesday directed the presidency to interpret the passage of Constitution Amendment Bill 2015 extending presidency, national and state legislatures as launch of reforms in government system.
 
Grace Alex Abalang warns that the 36 months mandate renewal of government should never be a replay of the past mess, but real business.
 
She instructs the executive to work for peace and carry out free and fair elections for legitimate government in 2018.
 
Government Spokesperson Michael Makuei Lueth told journalists later on that extending the government lifespan for three years ‘does not mean the end of the game’, but continuation of peace negotiation for possible constitution re-amendment to accommodate peace accord provisions.

He cites realities of lack of funds for carrying out elections in South Sudan as some reasons for the decision.
