The girls were addressing the Governor of Lakes State Chol Tong Mayay, who visited the School on Thursday.

Speaking on behalf of her fellow students, Elizabeth Nyibol said that Lakes State did not have schools, citing the example of Rumbek Senior Secondary School that faces congestion and lack of essential facilities.

She was grateful to Loreto Sisters for establishing the School that is enabling them pursue their education, adding that they were not blaming the new governor for the lack of schools since he is new in the office, but will expect his support.

Lakes State Governor promised to support the girls both at Secondary School level and at University, adding that education was one of his priorities as governor.

He encouraged the sisters managing Loreto School to help the girls know themselves better in order to prevent the girls dropping out from school due to “unwanted” pregnancy.

The governor acknowledged with appreciation parents who have allowed their daughters to go to Loreto boarding school, explaining that this represented cultural transformation.

Loreto Secondary School for girls enrolled the first girls three years ago. The pioneer students will complete their secondary school next year. The School is administered by Loreto Sisters from Ireland.
