Eastern Equatoria State and Kenyan government on Wednesday held a joint meeting over illegal intrusion and fencing of Nadapal border into South Sudan.

Governor Louis Lobong Lojore who led a delegation to smoothen the tension triggered by Kenyan extension to Nadapal, said state and the national governments were not aware of Kenya deep entry to South Sudan territory, Radio Emmanuel reported.

He blamed the Kenyan government for illegally constructing at night without informing authorities concerned at Nadapal border areas and that the Kenya deeply entered inside South Sudan for about 24 kilometers from the original border point at Lokichogio.

Governor Lobong disputed Kenyan authority construction as not in line with the agreement the two countries signed to temporarily extend the border, calling for amicable resolution of the issue.

He urges Kenyan government to suspend the activity until the two governments review the agreement and verify borders demarcation from the colonial mapping.

The Governor pointed out that the mandate of the state is to ensure good security to its citizens while borders issue is the mandate of the national government.

Toposa community accused Kenyan border security of blocking their animals from accessing pasture and water points which the Kenyan government denied.

Turkana County Commissioner Julius Mathenge said the fencing is part of an agreement signed in 2009 temporary meant for security purpose.
