The President of the Republic on Thursday launched the construction of Freedom Bridge across the River Nile linking Gumbo to Lologo in Rejaf Payam of Juba County in Central Equatoria State.
Addressing the ground breaking ceremony under the theme: ‘Contributing an everlasting friendship between South Sudan and Japan’, Salva Kiir Mayardit described the Bridge as vital investment that would boost the economic growth within the country and across the region.
The President demanded that Freedom Bridge should meet international standard to last for hundred years.
He called on investors to return to the country, assuring that security situation especially in Juba is conducive.
The 1.5 kilometre Freedom Bridge construction takes three years at the cost of 91 million US Dollars funded by the government of Japan through its agency JICA.
