Maize mill boosts Magwi women’s income

Community owned maize mill project initiated last year with funds from SNV-Netherlands Development Organization is helping to improve the income of women in ‘Can Mito Tutii’ group of Obbo, Magwi County of Eastern Equatoria State.
 
Auma Alice, a beneficiary who did not dream of getting a job due to her little education, said now she earns 300 South Sudanese Pounds a month from the project and pays her children’s school fees and resolve other needs, Radio Emmanuel reported.
 
Secretary of the group John Onen says the mill process between ten to twenty bags of 100 kilograms daily.
 
Mr Onen explains that the group seeks to purchase maize from Lobone and Palwa areas and that after grinding they sell a bag of100 kilogram at 280 Pounds.
 
Members of Can Mito Tutii group have laid a strategy to purchase a Lorry to transport raw materials and processed products to improve output of the maize mill.
 
Magwi County SNV Agricultural Project Officer Juan Cecily said the organization earmarked 20 thousand Pounds as a grant for the grinding mill group to purchase maize grains.
