Magwi pupil educates mothers on menstrual hygiene management

A 15-year-old Magwi Central Primary pupil, who learnt skills of re-usable menstrual pads production from the health club, teaches several mothers in her village on menstrual hygiene management and production of the pads.
 
Achola Beatrice, who started her initiative as part time activity with two friends in the evening hours, said her aim of sharing the skills with the community is to improve the hygiene of the women and girls in her village, Radio Emmanuel reported.
 
She was later joined by a group of mothers who formed a women group, named ‘Reber Aye Teko’ in Lobure village which comprise of housewives, civil servants and University students with its motto ‘Let it happen together’.
 
Amal Jackline, a second year student of Bugema University in Uganda with keen interest in the RUMPs production, praised pupil Achola for her initiative to mothers.
 
She after complaining of being neglected in many government development projects due to its distance from Magwi town centre said the pupil has a heart for Lobure village.
 
Members of the women group are lobbying for sewing machine and further training to turn the project into income generating activity.
 
A Netherland development Organization contracted Hope for children and Women Foundation to implement project following a study which showed high girls’ dropout rate due to poor menstrual hygiene management.
