Japan has pledged 2.5 million US Dollars for the mine action project, creation of quick response capacity and provision of support to its Engineering Contingent in South Sudan.

In a statement Japan says the funding will be used to demine dangerous areas throughout the country including current war scenes to create a safe environment for South Sudanese and humanitarian workers.

The statement adds that the new contribution will enable United Nations Mine Actions or UNMAS to establish Explosive Detection Dog Teams for weapon searching capacity at UN camps and other relevant places.

The Quick Response Teams are expected to establish to conduct emergency response to explosive items, surveys and clearance of explosive remnants.

The teams are also expected to provide risk education to masses as fighting is posing a significant threat to them.
