Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa or SIHA Organization offered non food items to 15 female inmates in Wau Central Prison during the International Women’s Day celebration last week.
SIHA Program Manager Ramadan Adam said the items which include washing and bathing soaps, sleeping mat, bed sheets, pampers and clothes for babies aim at providing good hygiene to female inmates, Radio Voice of Hope reported.
State ministry of Gender and Social Welfare representative Viola Phillip said it is their responsibility and NGOS to support women in terms of health, education and protection.
Wau Central Prison Director Caesar Tombe Joseph appreciated SIHA for providing female inmates with some and its one-hour presentation on civic education.
SIHA organization established its office in Wau in December 2013, working to promote women access to justice in Western Bahr El Ghazal State.
