A coalition of 76 civil society organizations from within and outside Africa petitioned the African Union or AU seeking immediate publication of the report of the Commission of Inquiry on South Sudan whose findings would critically contribute to the peace process.
The petition issued on Tuesday urged the AU to immediately consider, publish and disseminate the report of the AU Commission of Inquiry on South Sudan.
The organizations believe that the report could make an important contribution to South Sudan’s peace process and attainment of a lasting and sustainable peace.
They also believe the report could advance South Sudan’s pursuit of transitional justice and national reconciliation and also deter future serious crimes by parties to the conflict.
The organizations said the report would benefit victims and survivors who provided witness testimony and build confidence in the AU’s commitment to combat impunity on the continent.
