Western Equatoria State Legislative Assembly Peace, Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs Committee Chairperson called for charitable aid to people affected by natural disasters.
Suzan Thomas Perembata made the call on Thursday during a meeting with NGOs, government officials and Churches to discuss how to support hundreds of people who lost their houses and belongings due to fire outbreak, Radio Anisa reported.
She urged the State Ministry of Agriculture to quickly look for seeds and tools, calling on the humanitarian agencies to support with food and non-food items.
MP Perembata appealed to Churches to mobilize alms for the needy during the Lent season.
Committee Chairperson recalled that this year, severe fire outbreaks were recorded in Naandi, Diabio and Madoro of Ezo County, Gangura Payam of Yambio County and Nzara, Mundri and Tombura Counties.
Naandi MP Alfred Joseph Tindiri raised the motion on Wednesday and the Assembly took it seriously and sympathized with their constituencies.
