Women lawyers convened today to pass a constitution that will legalize their activities.

In March, women lawyers met for the first time and formed the South Sudan Women Lawyers Association to strengthen the capacity skills of lawyers all over the region through the support of the government and stakeholders.

Talking to SCR News, Afaf Ismeal, a legal counsellor at GoSS ministry of Legal Affairs, said the lawyers would use their Constitution to enlighten women on the 25 percent affirmative action, build their capacities and educate southerners for the upcoming referendum.

Grace Okonji, UNDP senior Gender Advisor, said the women lawyers would advocate for the change of laws that negatively affected women and girls in south Sudan.

The conference was organized by UNDP in collaboration with GoSS Ministry of Legal affairs and Constitutional Development.
