United States of America or US Secretary of State urged South Sudan warring parties to seize the current final round of negotiations to deliver a sustainable peace, asserting that they are ‘well past the point where enough is enough’.
In a statement John Kerry said South Sudan leaders can choose to do the hard work of implementing peace or they can all too easily drift back into the nightmare of war, urging them to choose peace.
He added that the leaders must put the interests of their people above their own and that violence must end through negotiated conclusion now.
Secretary Kerry said ‘legitimacy is not a presumed right of any government. It is conferred by the people and it is sustained only by demonstrating leadership to protect and serve all citizens’.
The US Secretary of State wants President Salva Kiir and SPLM/A in Opposition leader Riek Machar to secure an agreement that is inclusive, initiating a broad range of transitional reforms and ensuring those responsible for human rights abuses are held to account.
