South Sudan-Ethiopia Peace Consultative Conference held recently in Addis Ababa presented a position paper demanding detention of the warring negotiators until they sign final peace agreement by March 5.
A conference delegate Isaac Kenyi Kungur told CRN on Tuesday that they told Intergovernmental Authority on Development or IGAD not to allow government and SPLM/A in Opposition negotiators to depart the peace venue without striking a peace deal.
The delegate disclosed that IGAD was ‘very very’ upset with President Salva Kiir Mayardit ‘continuous delay’ in Addis Ababa peace venue contrary to February 20 commitments.
Mr Kenyi disclosed that IGAD warned Governors Clement Wani Konga of Central Equatoria, Louis Lobong Lojore of Eastern Equatoria, Bangasi Joseph Bakasoro of Western Equatoria, Rizik Zachariah Hassan of Western Bahr El Ghazal and Kwel Aguer Kwel of Northern Bahr El Ghazal against being obstacles to peace.
The delegate said IGAD also warned them of soliciting maintenance of Vice President James Wani Igga in the second command.
The delegate believes any failure by the warring parties to sign a peace agreement soon would likely attract foreign intervention in South Sudan.
