The national Education Minister issued a Ministerial Order dated February 23 forming 17-member steering committee to work out new salaries’ structure for nursery, primary, secondary and tertiary institution teachers.

John Gai Yoh tasked the committee with identification of challenges affecting current teachers’ salary structure and justification for a new salary structure.

He also instructed the committee to compare current South Sudan teachers’ salary structure with at least two neighbouring countries.

Dr Gai tasked the steering committee to study teachers’ academic qualifications, experience, current grades and categories.

The Minister instructed the 17-member committee to submit their recommendations to Labour, Public Service and Human Resource Development and Education ministries.

Dr Gai made the Ministerial Order after consultations with Finance and Labour ministers as teachers rock the country with sporadic strikes over pay.
