A member of the National Legislative Assembly from Rumbek East County expressed hope that last week’s peace and reconciliation conference resolutions would deliver stability in Lakes State.
Paul Mayom Akech on Saturday described the conference as successful because it critically identified and outlined root causes of violence and insecurity in the state, Radio Good News reported.
The MP explained that break down of justice system, failure to apprehend perpetrators, bribery and inability to try culprits were identified as factors that led to cycles of violence and revenge killings as citizens took the law into their hands.
The conference recommended that national and state governments immediately prioritize deployment of armed forces to volatile areas of the state followed by disarmament of the civil population.
