United Nations Humanitarian Chief reported that 2.5 million South Sudanese are urgently in need of food, desperate for peace and tired of living in fear.

Valerie Amos told journalists on Monday after meeting conflict-affected people, top government officials and humanitarian partners in Juba that IDPs are worried that the warring parties would recruit their children.

She appealed for 1.8 Billion US Dollars to help 4.1 million conflict-affected South Sudanese and that they would reach more IDPs if they receive 600 million Dollars by the end of February.

United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization or UNESCO Special Envoy for Peace and Reconciliation Forest Whitaker called on the warring parties to end war and work together to build sustainable peace in South Sudan.

He lamented that many children are suffering from malnutrition.
