A coalition of Non-governmental Organisations or NGOs on Sunday in Nairobi, Kenya pledging conference demanded regional leaders and donors to make tough decisions to transform South Sudan’s devastation to development by redoubling efforts for lasting peace.
The NGOs in a statement CRN obtained, observed that if external influential parties do not do more to urge South Sudan’s warring leaders to address the core drivers of their conflict, aid would remain merely an expensive band-aid solution.
Oxfam Regional Director Nigel Tricks lamented that ‘as fighting continues and leaders fail to reach a lasting commitment for peace, the intervention of regional leaders, donors and other actors becomes ever more urgent’.
The statement added that with so many other conflicts raging across the globe, South Sudan is in danger of being forgotten when aid operations are critical both in the country and regionally.
The NGOs calculated that 1.8 billion US Dollars is needed in 2015.
