Save the Children in partnership with United Nations Children Fund or UNICEF and VSF are set to assist child soldiers recently released by David Yau Yau Democratic Army/Movement or SSDA/M Cobra Faction to ensure successful reintegration into civilian life.

In a statement dated February 5, Save the Children Child Protection specialists were scheduled to travel to Pibor Administrative Area, the following day.

The statement added that the children agency has secured the delivery of appropriate recreational materials for children and adolescents including games and sporting kit into the remote region.

The agency observes that coming out of an armed force and moving back to a civilian community can be a confusing and stressful experience for children.

Save the Children Child Protection Advisor Christine McCormick says their priority is to seek the secure release of children and ensure unhindered ability of child protection agencies to support their initial needs in the integration to civilian life.

The agency urges states and warring parties to fulfill their obligations under international humanitarian and human rights law to ensure the protection of children in South Sudan.
