The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs or OCHA reported that humanitarian agencies are working to lengthen Rubkona airfield runway to improve relief operations in Bentiu, Unity State.
OCHA in its weekly situation report said 4.7 million US Dollars are needed to expand the runway.
It disclosed that mine clearance teams are surveying the airfield to remove unexploded ordnance as part of efforts to extend the runway.
In a separate news development, OCHA declared some roads leading to Unity as free of mines.
It said Mayom-Torabeid road and Mayom junction were verified as free of mines and also no evidence of mines on the Mayom-Abiemnom road.
OCHA noted that Mine Action teams still face difficulties due to insecurity and restrictions on their movement.
