Three Rwandan peacekeepers were killed yesterday in Darfur by unknown gunmen.
UNAMID spokesman Ali Hamati said in a statement about 20 militants opened fire without warning on UNAMID peacekeepers who were working at a base in Jebel Marra region of West Darfur.Mr. Hamati said three peacekeepers were killed in the and a fourth was seriously wounded.
He added that the UNAMID mission responded to the fire and killed three attackers before they escaped.
The spokesman did not specify the identity of the victims, but local sources said they belong to a Rwandan unit which is responsible of the area.
