City Star Football Club on Sunday won the Mayor’s 2014 cup after beating Luzira Super Stars 4-1 in penalties at Yei Freedom Square following a 1-1 draw.
Municipal Mayor Santo Paul Lasuba commended Gemtel for sponsorship, coaches for good organization and the two clubs for playing in a discipline way, Radio Easter reported.
He encouraged players to develop their talents to represent Yei and South Sudan in international competitions, advising girls to prepare for January football competition.
County Culture, Youth and Sports Assistant Commissioner Kujo Benneth called on the Local Football Association and citizens to support the sports’ development to build unity.
County Football Association head John James Juma announced that it was the first time City Star Club won a trophy since its inception in 2006.
The officials spoke after the finals on Sunday at Yei Freedom Square.
