Residents in Yei town have been advised to take their personal security and property as top priority ahead of the upcoming Christmas and New Year festivities.

The advise was given by the criminal investigations officer at Yei Police Station, Lubari Manasse, Spirit FM reported.

Mr. Manasse said police was registering an increase in cases of crime involving armed robbery, stabbing, house breaking, theft of motorcycles and other property.

The remarks by the crime investigations officer follow the shooting of an Ugandan businessman, Ntali Jimmy Mathias, at Hai Mission last week.

Mr. Manasse disclosed that the businessman was attacked and shot in the thigh by two unidentified gunmen before robbing him of over 600 Sudanese pounds.

He called upon Yei’s residents to immediately report to the authorities any suspected criminal behaviour.

Police investigations into the Ugandan businessman’s shooting are still underway.

The victim, who operates a bakery at Yei’s Hai Nyakama, was admitted at Yei Civil Hospital where he is still under treatment.

The doctor in charge of the surgical ward at the hospital, Jerisa Kiden Kenyi, said the patient needs a blood transfusion and an X-ray before he can be referred to Uganda.
