Save the Children said with the highest maternal mortality rate in the world, the birth of a healthy baby Emmanuel in Nimule Hospital of Eastern Equatoria on Christmas day is a miracle worth celebrating.
Save the Children’s Country Director Peter Walsh in a statement said he witnessed the birth of the child, saying it was the moment of joy for making daily challenges more manageable, hoping that Christmas miracles would continue.
He said Nimule Hospital is one of the South Sudan’s leading medical facilities for maternal care, with ten midwives delivering six babies a day and provide essential post-natal care.
The hospital is a free of charge and brings women from various parts of South Sudan including Juba.
Save the Children midwife Muraa Jane described the Hospital as busy and often stressful environment but that she likes working in it.
