Food and Agriculture Organization or FAO warned in a report that South Sudan conflict if not addressed could threaten the future of national livestock as there are already displacements into agricultural zones outside their traditional pastoral domains.
FAO decried the displacement of large-scale livestock in their millions including cattle to crop producing areas of Equatoria, Bahr El Ghazal and north-eastern Upper Nile regions.
The report highlighted that livestock is creating big problems challenging local power structures and squeezed natural resource availability; ushering disease patterns.
FAO added that livestock prompted a sharp rise in tribal conflicts, cattle raids and disease outbreaks.
The report also indicated that livestock displacement resulted in severe food shortages for pastoral communities.
The Organisation concludes that it is making attempts to strengthen vaccination chains to keep as many cattle healthy as possible.
