Internally displaced people returning to South Sudan are concerned about the provision of basic services that remains a major constrain for their return to the region.
UNHCR Assistant Representative for Operation in Southern Sudan, Geoff Worldley, told the press this afternoon in Juba that lack of basic services was keeping internally displaced people (IDPs) away from South Sudan.Mr. Worldley said the UNHCR constructed some schools, water points, and health centres among to welcome returnees home.
Mr. Worldley said the government and the local community must enact legislation that allowed IDPs to regain their ancestral lands occupied while they were in displacement.
He explained that land acquisition by IDPS helped them cultivate and fix themselves in the land of origin.
Mr. Worldley was speaking at the celebration of the World Refugee Day this afternoon in Juba.
