UN calls for power-sharing agreement in South Sudan

United Nations or UN Secretary-General on Monday, marking one year of mid December 2013 Juba conflict eruption said he was dismayed and saddened that South Sudan warring parties have yet to reach a comprehensive peace agreement.
 
In a statement, CRN obtained, Ban Ki-Moon called on the warring leadership to agree to an inclusive, power-sharing arrangement to address the root causes of the conflict and ensure accountability for the crimes committed over the past year to end the culture of impunity.
 
He said South Sudan leaders allowed their personal ambitions to jeopardize the future of an entire nation, lamenting that the fact that thousands died, 1.9 million people were displaced and millions more vulnerable to food insecurity is tragic and unacceptable.
 
The Secretary-General called for killing to stop, saying South Sudan independence founded on tolerance, good governance, accountability and unity must not continue disappearing before the world eyes.
 
Mr Ban called on the international community to put its collective weight behind South Sudan peace process under Inter-Governmental Authority on Development mediation.
