United Nations Children’s Fund or UNICEF alarmed that the future of an entire generation of South Sudan’s children was being ‘stolen’ by the ongoing year-long conflict.

In a statement, CRN obtained, UNICEF wrote that the scale of South Sudan crisis facing children is ‘staggering’.

The agency added that since the violence eruption in mid December 2013, almost 750 thousand children were internally displaced, 320 thousand more living as refugees and 400 others missing school.

It recorded 12 thousand children being used by armed forces, subjecting them to violence, malnutrition and disease.

UNICEF spokesperson Sarah Crowe told journalists in Geneva that children are still under daily threat in South Sudan following conflict outbreak in December 15, 2013.

South Sudan UNICEF Representative Jonathan Veitch said the ongoing fighting is grossly undermining the future of South Sudan’s children and the country at large.
