A UN official said Lakes State will profit from the Sudan Recovery Fund to help implement various projects planned by the local government.

The UN official, who was accompanying a team from UN Agency Fund and UN Development Programme, said the delegation came to Rumbek to pay a courtesy call to the new governor, Chol Tong Mayay.

She added that the team discussed with governor Tong and commissioners issues related to insecurity and the new coordination mechanisms between the government of Lakes State and the different partners working in the state.

The official expressed confidence in the implementation of the development projects in Lakes State through Sudan Recovery Fund.

She described the development plan of Lakes State as “terrific and visionary” covering key components like roads, water points and police stations in unstable areas.

The official said the funds to kick start the projects should be approved soon after the formation of a new cabinet for Lakes State for the works to start before the rainy season.

Sudan Recovery Fund will hopefully help Lakes State Governor fulfil some of the many promises he made during his period of campaign for the office.
