Two thousand six hundred and forty primary eight candidates in Yei River County of Central Equatoria on Monday started Primary Leaving Certificate Exams marking their second year of South Sudan curriculum.
County Education Director, Philip Taban, said the candidates including 1,783 boys and 857 girls are sitting in twenty four centres in the county, citing an increase of 418 pupils this year compared to 2013, Radio Easter reported.
He urged the candidates not to panic, discourage malpractice and courageously approach the exams as normal test.
Yei Municipal Town Clerk Michael Modi expressed happiness over lack of segregation among pupils from different states.
He appealed to private and government institutions to build more and permanent schools.
The leaders spoke at the official opening of the exams at Kanjoro Primary School in Yei Municipality.
