The UN agency for children is discussing strategies for development of a peace initiative in the Sudan.
UNICEF Sudan representative Nils Arne Kastberg told SCR News that the agency was studying initiatives to disseminate information on peace building among the Sudanese.Mr. Kastberg said Sudanese needed to cultivate an environment of peace for their children since the young ones were the most affected by violence.
He added that it was time to put money in health and education to prevent 300 thousand children and 26 thousand mothers to die every year of curable diseases and bring to school three million children.
Mr. Kastberg explained that citizens should request leaders to resolve differences amicably.
He added that too much money was spent on the war machine instead of investing on children.
Mr. Kastberg said UNICEF would advertise the peace initiative over TV, radio and newspapers in northern states.
He said UNICEF would work with other partners to spread the development peace initiative throughout the country.
Mr. Kastberg said there were some 700 UNICEF staffs prepared to disseminate information about the peace initiative across the country.
