The commission that fights corruption in south Sudan issued a set of guidelines to ease the report of fraud by government officials and citizens in general.
Deng Deng Hoc Yai is Southern Sudan Anti-Corruption Commission executive director. Talking to SCR News, he said the guidelines were mainly for government officials and reminded them that they were legally bound to report corruption.Mr. Deng noted that reporting corruption could be done through writing, phone, e-mail or coming in person to the commission.
He said that the commission created an e-mail address to report fraudulent cases: corruption offences at yahoo dot com.
Mr. Deng added that the identity of the reporters would be protected by law.
Mr. Deng mentioned that the guidelines should be implemented in all the ten states of south Sudan.
He confirmed that officials who failed to cooperate would be penalized with up to three months’ imprisonment or fined in cash.
