40-years old blind South Sudanese woman narrated how she fled alone from Maiwut village of Upper Nile State as able people ran past her.
In United Nations Higher Commissioner for Refugees or UNHCR statement, CRN obtained, blind Nyantay Gatkuoth said relatives and neighbours grabbed her hands and dragged her to a nearby forest.
She added that her hand slipped out of the last person’s, leaving her alone with the bullets snapping at her heels.
Ms Gatkuoth said she just kept running as she heard gunshots; feeling very scared.
She narrated that holes, trees, heat and exhaustion were big obstacles when she was running.
Ms Gatkuoth said she eventually crossed the border into Ethiopia and entered Tierkidi refugee camp where she reunited with her husband and four children she presumed dead.
Tierkidi camp houses 50 thousand South Sudanese refugees who fled to Ethiopia in last year.
