The national Council of Ministers in its regular sittings on Friday formed eight-ministerial member committee to strategize ways of saving South Sudan government from pending United Nations or UN Security Council sanctions.
Government Spokesperson Michael Makuei Lueth told journalists in Juba that the cabinet set the committee to lobby against sanctions from the Security Council through members moving the motion and the African Union.
He also disclosed that African Union or AU Commission of Inquiry headed by former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo had already finished its task and that whatever the outcome, it would be submitted to the UN Security Council for action if deemed fit.
Mr Makuei said they were monitoring the move by some members of UN Security Council; citing Troika lobbying for sanctions against South Sudan government for delaying peace process and continuing human rights’ violations.
He lamented that such a move was unacceptable to the government and its people.
The Spokesperson added that the Security Council also targets imposing arms embargo on South Sudan, claiming that such sanctions would only affect ordinary citizens, but not the government.
Mr Makuei announced the composition of the eight-ministerial member committee as follows: Dr Barnabas Marial Benjamin, the head and other members are: Awan Guol Riak, Dr Riak Gai Kok, Dr John Gai Yoh, Justice Paulino Wanawilla Unango, Jemma Nunu Kumba, Deng Deng Hoc Yai and Dr Selwa Gibril.
