Eastern Equatoria on Friday marked 3rd Agriculture show under the theme ‘Agriculture as a business for sustainable livelihood and socioeconomic empowerment in the state’.
Deputy Governor Jerome Surur Gama while officiating over the show, appreciated farmers for the produce they displayed at the event, Radio Emmanuel reported.
He said Governor Louis Lobong has produced a concept paper that calls for production of animal resources and fisheries.
The deputy governor cites food production along Kineti River banks this year with destruction along Torit-Kapoeta road.
He reiterates government commitment to combat the use of guns in cattle raiding, calling on citizens to convert animals for economic gains.
Mr Surur urged the people to emulate the people of Budi, Moti and Magwi counties for the great harvest attained this year.
The Deputy Governor advised farmers to plant trees by using school children in agricultural activities during holidays.
He promised 100 South Sudanese Pounds for each group of farmers in attendance of the show as transport incentive.
Thousands of people from the eight counties of Eastern Equatoria attended the third agriculture show at Torit Freedom Square.
