Enough Project Assessment research in Sudan’s South Kordofan region indicated that sixty-five percent of households are restricting food consumption of adults to feed children due to food insecurity.
The Assessment research, CRN obtained also shows 81 percent of households are reducing number of meals consumed each week as 73 percent limit their portion size at meals every day.
It indicated that 70 percent of the displaced households in South Kordofan and 64 percent of non-displaced households are experiencing moderate to severe hunger.
The Research added that food stocks are a problem in the war ravaged region with 90 percent of households not having enough stocks to last for a month and 49 percent not having enough food stocks even for one week.
It also indicated that malnutrition in South Kordofan is very high; displaying a severe acute malnutrition rate of 3.6 percent confidence interval above the World Health Organization’s critical threshold level of two percent.
The Assessment concluded that essential interventions are required in food security, livelihoods, protection and health in the SPLMN controlled areas of South Kordofan State.
