United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization or UNESCO South Sudan Representative called on the government to investigate crimes and impunity against citizens and journalists and bring perpetrators to book.
Salah Khaled stressed that the safety of journalists depends on ending impunity, emphasizing that investigating crimes against journalists remains the major responsibility of the government.
He called on the national Information Ministry to follow media laws implementation by ensuring the establishment of the Media Authority and Broadcasting Corporation.
Acting Information Director-General in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Paul Jacob Kimbo expressed government’s commitment to create favourable environment to enable journalists operate freely.
He urged media practitioners to be aware of the guidelines governing their profession and report responsibly to avoid problems.
The Acting Director-general called for cooperation between the government and media houses, appealing to Associations and NGOs to enlighten citizens on the great role journalists play in societies.
