Eastern Equatoria Health Minister said they spent at least twenty-eight thousand South Sudan Pounds to reward people who report guinea worm cases.
Margaret Itto said the money was given for reporting 58 cases of guinea worm in Kapoeta East County, Radio Emmanuel reported.
She explained that the cash reward goes to persons who voluntarily came to Guinea Worm Case Containment Centre.
Dr Itto noted that the ministry intensified surveillance to other no-endemic area such as Magwi, Ikwotos and Lafon/Lopa to flush out the worm from the state.
She cited drilling of about 17 boreholes and rehabilitation of 69 others as success in reducing the infection in endemic areas.
The Minister acknowledged the support of Carter Centre, United Nation Children’s Fund, World Health Organization and national Health ministry in the fight against guinea worm.
