SOUTH DARFUR ARTISTS DEBATE INVOLVEMENT IN SOCIAL ISSUES

South Darfur artists got together to define their role in peace building in a region torn apart by years of war.

Three hundred artists are in Nyala, South Darfur, for a three-day workshop titled “The Role of the Artist in Peacemaking.”

The event was put together by the State Ministry of Culture and Information and UNAMID to bring together a variety of musicians, painters, craftsmen, and poets from all over South Darfur.

UNAMID official Reuben Inaju sad the quest for lasting peace in Darfur needed the collective effort of the good people of Darfur.

The workshop aims at providing a forum for participants to discuss what they can do within their communities to highlight issues of human rights, gender and social welfare and to also encourage their audience to become more proactive in the peace process.
