United Nations Children Education Fund or UNICEF Representative advised children to always wash their hands with soap or ash and clean water before eating food.
Mikelele Bernard during the Hand Washing Day commemoration by School children in Torit said the ashes could be used in critical moments, where there is no soap, Radio Emmanuel reported.
He advised that washing hands helps eradicate diseases, including diarrhoea, pneumonia, cholera and Ebola.
Mr Bernard called on citizens to stay alert about the outbreak of Ebola, claiming lives of many people in the West African countries.
Torit County Executive Director Cyprian Oling advised pupils to extend the message to their parents to improve health status in the State.
He warned that the recent cholera outbreak in the country was due to poor sanitation.
