Troika Envoys tell leaders to cast ambitions aside

Troika Special Envoys from United States, United Kingdom and Norway to South Sudan and Sudan on Friday met President Salva Kiir and his cabinet and told them to cast aside personal ambitions to compromise on outstanding issues in Ethiopa’s Bahir Dar peace talks.
 
US Envoy to Sudan and South Sudan Donald Booth said in Juba they told government officials to move the peace process forward and agree on the powers of proposed Prime Minister and others in transitional government as soon as possible.
 
He lamented on the dire humanitarian crisis in the country and the eagerness for peace.
 
Norwegian Envoy Jens Petter Kjemprud told the press that Troika’s interest in South Sudan is achievement of peace and rehabilitation of the devastated country in the aftermath of the terrible crisis.
 
He added that Troika would continue offering humanitarian aid to the country, calling for cooperation from all South Sudanese to utilize the dry season for prepositioning of relief items for the conflict victims.
 
UK Envoy Matthew Cannel said Troika is in solidarity with South Sudanese to achieve genuine sustainable peace, expressing Troika’s commitment to fund humanitarian needs in the country.
 
The envoys dismissed government claims that Troika was working for regime change in Juba, reiterating that they are seeking paths for realizing sustainable peace in the country.
