The US aid agency awarded contracts to 17 graduates for the construction of feeder roads which will be monitored and evaluated by their engineers.

The students were trained on road maintenance through a ten-week course and were graduated yesterday.

GoSS minister for Roads and Transport, Anthony Makana, told SCR News that the 17 new contractors would grow in experience to be able to be hired either the government or private companies.

Ed Flink, transportation capacity building programme manager, explained that 13 students were graduated last year bringing the total of graduates in road maintenance all over south Sudan to 30, including three girls.

Benjamin Mawa, representing the graduates, said the training provided them with a venue to apply and improve technical and managerial skills acquired.

The training was part of Louis Burger’s programme of capacity building through labour based road maintenance training in south Sudan.
