Eastern Equatoria SPLM joint caucus appointed Assembly Chief Whip Alberio Tobiolo Oromo as party candidate for the seat of speaker.
Acting Speaker Paul Napwon told Emmanuel Radio on Thursday that the State SPLM Members of Parliament or MPs and the executive agreed on nominating Tobiolo as the only party candidate to compete with others for speakership in the State Augus House.
He revealed that two MPs withdrew their candidature for the race in support of Tobiolo to face other political parties’ contestants on Monday.
Speaker Napwon says two parliamentarians including Charles Udwar and Severino Maira withdrew from the race in favour of MP Tobiolo for the seat.
Eastern Equatoria Governor Louis Lobong Lojore who is also the State SPLM party leader chaired the joint caucus meetings on Wednesday.
The seat of the State Assembly Speaker fell vacant after the death of Speaker Ambrose Emmanuel Ocholimoi on February 18, 2014.
