Agency for Independent Media or AIM Executive Director condemned security agents’ move of stopping the circulation of Juba Monitor Newspaper on Wednesday, describing it ‘barbaric’.

David De Dau said there is a contradiction between the National Security Bill and the Media Laws, calling for reformation of the Media Bill for correct amendments.

He argued that no government security agency should decide and close a radio station or newspaper, affirming that it is the court of law to order any closure due to various reasons.

The Director criticized the act, saying it was Sudan’s behaviour that forced South Sudanese to take arms against the regime.

He said Juba Monitor is a moderate media house that appreciates and criticizes the government.

Juba Monitor Editorial Director Anna Nimiriano Nunu said on Monday a security personnel went to the office and asked one of them to go with them.

She added that security officers accused the Newspaper of belonging to the opposition and it staff as opposition agents.

She said the security organs ordered them not to take news from websites including Sudan Tribune and Radio Tamazuj, an instruction they refused.

The Editorial Director said act practiced by the security agents shows that there is no freedom of expression though the media Bills are signed.
