South Sudan Political Parties call for reconsideration of security Bill appealing to President Salva Kiir Mayardit not to accent to it and return to the National Legislative Assembly, saying the quorum of the sitting was questionable with doubtful legality.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the parties complain that the act contravenes the Bill of Rights, defines and imposes penalties not in conformity with the Penal Code, rushed and passed into parliament in disregard to the Conduct of Business Regulations.

The Parties said the law was referred to relevant committees for analysis after many members expressed concerns regarding certain provisions that give the security agents immunity and wide ranging powers of detention and arrest without warrant.

They stressed that all countries in the world derive their legitimacy from the national constitution which is the supreme law of the land.

The Parties reaffirm that the National Transitional Constitution specifies that the security service shall be subjected to the authority of the constitution and the law, subordinate to the civilian authority and respects the will of the people, rule of law, democracy, human rights and fundamental freedoms.

They added that the security service shall reflect the diversity of South Sudanese in its recruitment, be professional, and its mandate shall focus on information gathering, analysis and advice to the relevant authorities.

The Political Parties expressed readiness to coordinate with other sections of their society to ensure that they finally get a security Bill that serves the supreme interest of South Sudanese.
