Torit Catholic Emeritus Bishop on Saturday consecrated a multipurpose centre marking his golden jubilee at his home area, Opari.

Bishop Paride Taban Kenyi said the structure known as Holy Rosary Church Multi-purpose Centre is a school, training and prayer center for the community, Emmanuel Radio reported.

While baptizing 18 infants the Bishop said the Sacrament means giving birth to new community in the Church.

The Catholic prelate noted that Norwegians, Americans and Germans were among those who turned up for the golden jubilee ceremony at Opari village in Magwi County, including other three thousand people from all races and continents.

Torit Apostolic Administrator Monsignor Thomas Oliha described the different races that joint the ceremony in Opari as the beauty of the Catholic Church.

He congratulated Bishop Paride Taban on occasion of 50 years as a priest serving in the vineyard of the Lord.

The Apostolic Administrator urged all the faithful to emulate the long term service of Bishop Taban.

Emeritus Bishop Paride Taban Kenyi was ordained a priest in 1964 and when missionaries were expelled from South Sudan, he was among few priests left and spent the two decades war in the country.
